THE ELEMENTS OF LIFE AND THERE MEANINGS

FIRE- Used for purification and defense. Though the color red is often associated with it by traditionalists. Fire is thought to be the universal force of expansion.

WATER- Healing, cleansing, regeneration, motion/movement. Again, blue is associated with it traditionally. Water is thought to be the universal force of contraction.

AIR-Intellect; mental stuff, can be used as a force to push something away or draw it near. I see and get more of the feeling of air or breezes when working with it, though I used the color yellow to visualize elemental air when first learning. Air is thought to be the universal force that reconciles Expansion/fire and Contraction/water

Earth- Strength, making things permanent, some regenerative capabilities.  Earth is thought to be the combination of Fire Air and Water, and is the universal force of solidification present in physical manifestation.

SPIRIT-  Last but not least the element of Spirit (the 5th element). Spiritual energy can be used for almost anything.  You'll have to work with it for a while to get a feel for it.

The easiest way to learn to use and channel these energies is to meditate and try to feel yourself immersed in and filled with each one.  If the element you wish to work with is fire, then meditate/relax, and then imagine yourself being filled with fire but not being harmed.  Try to feel this strongly.  You might even pretend to inhale the fire into your body to get a good feel for it.  Do this often until you can feel yourself filled with each energy type easily.

It is recommended that much time be spent meditating and balancing/purifying the self with each element.  Once you are able to 'power up' with an energy, then you can begin to work with very basic methods of putting it to use.

*THE WICCAN REDE*

Bide within the Law you must,
in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live,
fairly take and fairly give.
For tread the Circle thrice about
to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time,
let the spell be said in rhyme.
Light of eye and soft of touch,
speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name,
let love and light be our guides again.
Deosil go by the waxing moon,
chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,
and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.
When the Lady's moon is new,
kiss the hand to Her times two.
When the moon rides at Her peak
then your heart's desire seek.
Heed the North winds mighty gale,
lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East,
expect the new and set the feast.
When the wind comes from the South,
love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West,
all hearts will find peace and rest.
Nine woods in the Cauldron go,
burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes
to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak in the forest towers with might
in the fire it brings the God's insight.
Rowan is a tree of power
causing life and magick to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand
ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify
and to draw faerie to your eye.
Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning-
adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree
that brings us fruits of fertility.
Grapes grow upon the vine
giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen
to represent immortality seen.
Elder is the Lady's tree
burn it not or cursed you'll be.
Four times the Major Sabbats mark
in the light and in the dark.
As the old year starts to wane
the new begins, it's now Samhain.
When the time for Imbolg shows
watch for flowers through the snows.
When the wheel begins to turn
soon the Beltaine fires will burn
As the wheel turns to Lammas night
power is brought to magick rite.
Four times the Minor Sabbats fall
use the Sun to mark them all.
When the wheel has turned to Yule
light the log the Horned One rules.
In the spring, when night equals day
time for Ostara to come our way.
When the Sun has reached it's height
time for Oak and Holly to fight.
Harvesting comes to one and all
when the Autumn Equinox does fall.
Heed the flower, bush, and tree
By the Lady blessed you'll be.

Where the rippling waters go
cast a stone, the truth you'll know.
When you have and hold a need,
harken not to others greed.
With a fool no season spend
or be counted as his friend.
Merry Meet and Merry Part
bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Three-fold Laws you should
three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow
wear the star upon your brow.
Be true in love this you must do
unless your love is false to you.
Eight words the Rede fulfill
"And ye harm none, do what ye will".

The Magick I am discussing and relaying to you is not the stereotypical "supernatural", "witchcraft" or "slight of hand stage" magick. It is the tool and an important guiding force within each of us, within your own emotional and intuitive comprehension. Each of us is as powerful as we need to be to develop our desires withouth the need to abuse the Earth on which we live.

On your journey into the magickal realm, you should learn:
* Understanding that everything is interrelated
* Understanding the importance of secrecy and silence
* Practice will and discipline
* Learn to overcome your fear of success
* Learn personal empowerment
* Learn your path to self realization
* Understand that there are things you must do yourself
* Learn to accept there are some things you can not change
* Acquire determination
* Learn to focus your will and emotions to cause change in both the world around you and more importantly, within you

As on any journey to a faraway place, it is best to learn a bit of the language where you are going. You may want to check under tools of the craft for definitions.

Magick is finding your connection to the Earth and all that is natural, alive and moving in the universe! It binds all that exists together.

Magick is living in balance with the flow of life, and knowing that you are a vital force within that flow. Magick is everywhere! In the trees, rain, stars, and in the sea. It is the spark that quickens a seed to rise up from the soil.

Magick is laughter, joy, wonder and truth the of the world around us!
It is the subtle enchantment that reminds us not to waste a single moment of this gift that we call life! Magick is not greed, or power, or pretense...It is real. It exists. And it works.

Magick is the mystery that lies in the secret soul of the world. It is the essence of creation. What we imagine, we have the power to create!

MAGICK IS WITHIN YOU...
With it you can create your dreams, heal your world, love your life and find the peace that lives in every human heart.

When performing meditation, or preparing for a ritual or rite, often it necessary for you to allow yourself a way to clear out any doubts or wandering thoughts. This is called centering and grounding because this process is approached in tow separate parts. First, before beginning anything else, not surroundings, make sure you are comfortable if you are planning to meditate, and then I steady your breathing.

Centering - Center yourself by slowly bringing you awareness inward. Since we spend most of our lives focusing outward it may take some practice to become comfortable with this idea. This is also the time when you have the wandering thoughts those things that just pop into your head, like what to make for dinner, the meeting you have next week, etc. The hardest part of centering is letting these thoughts come for a time, then simply putting them aside to focus on yourself and what you are about to do. It sounds easy, but think of it another way how many times have you tried to fall asleep and couldn't because these thoughts kept popping into your mind. Same thing, only your goal is to remain awake! Or at least, to relax enough for meditation, but not so far as to fall asleep.

Grounding - Grounding is a two part process: first to allow any lingering negative thoughts to flow harmlessly away, and second to provide yourself a stable link while you are working. One way is to start by connecting to the Earth through your feet. See it as a cord of energy from your body that reaches down into the Earth, and a similar cord that reaches up to you from the Earth, with the two cords weaving together. Through this cord allow any energy buildup to drain down into the Earth, Knowing that it will be harmlessly dispersed, and feel the stability of the Earth. This is also a major point to remember when working magic: if you do not allow yourself an outlet for the excess energy you have built up, it will remain with you. This is why many Witches cast circles for magical workings, it contains energy until released

There are many different types of Magick that yu will find along your journey. These are "forms" or different "techniques" that are applied for your magickal goal or desires. They can be combined or used separately. However and whatever you find most is that which works for YOU!!!

Color Magick - This technique is used in various other forms and is the most widely used in relation to your desires. Color has the ability to enhance, modify, lessen, or change our moods & emotions, even our perceived desires. A color is chosen to represent the goal or desire of that which you are attempting. You can impliment it in to all other forms and techniques.

Symbolic Magick - This is a system which uses different symbols to represent various ideas, people and goals. Numbers can also be used. A good self-made symbol represeting the thought form or the elements or whatever you wish, is the most powerful magick as it is your own, and any of the altar or ritual forms you choose.

Poppet or Representational Magick - This system utilizes the figure of someone in which you are working the spell for. This helps in visualizing the main desire and the end result. These figures can be made from just about anything and are widely sold at many shops. But again, the best is the one you make yourself. It personalizes it even mor both for the person and for you. A lock of hair, a piece of clothing, even a photo or picture from a magazine will work just as well also.

Talismans and/or Amulet Magick - These are "charged" magickally and usually worn or carried on the person for protection, good luck or any reason you want. It is a type of representational and a type of symbolic magick combined. There are many types, figures, combination, pices and items you can use for this purpose. Many are worn around the neck or carried in a pouch. Anything you carried with you is your "good luck" charm.

Herbal Magick - This also can be implemented in many forms of magick. Used as talismans and amulets in a pouch or a dream pillow for dreams or good nights sleep. Combined inside a candle for a scented or enhanced energy for your goal. There are literally hundreds of different types of herbs readily available and each one can have its own specific use or a myriad of uses. Many are cultivated at the correct Moon Phases, both sown and harvested in order to maximize the magickal effects. This is a very ancient system but is still widely used today.

Candle Magick - One of the oldest forms of magick as well as one of the easiest. Fire has held our fascination for many centuries and its uses are seemingly unlimited. Its use in Magick is not only extremely effective but you can also use the many other forms and techniques along with it. Color, Representational and Herbal Magick being the most used in conjunction with Candle Magick.

Knot Magick or Binding Magick - This utilizes rope, string, yarn or even shoelaces to signify the desire. It is used in conjunction with many of the other forms and is a type of representational magick also. Some carry the tied desire around with them, wear it, untie it to represent release. The color, form and energies are all used when practicing this type of magick.

Crystal Magick - Each stone or gem has its own magickal property. Here again, you will find wide differences in each attribute. It is used to enhance a spell or used on its own. The power of the Stone is amazing, you will find the beauty is attractive enough, now you will find that each can help you in a variety of way. Many healers use this system as the vibrational power of the Stones are useful in many ways.

Elemental Magick - This is the use of the different elements, Fire, Air, Water and Earth. Even the directions of each one has its own magickal properties. Each has its own aspects and is used in very nearly all forms of Magick. These are very important and there is wide differences in the different properties attributed to each. It is up to you to find what works the best for you.
